Configuration Data Management Leadership Training

Common Organizational Challenges

There are numerous challenges to properly implementing Configuration Data Management (CDM or CM/DM) within an organization, a program, or across an entire enterprise including its supply chain partners. Historically, many of these obstacles were due to technology and tools as frequently discussed in past CMsights articles.

As CM/DM technologies and tools have matured, an increasing number of operational challenges are now dependent on the internal leadership and influence provided by the professionals, teams, and organizations responsible for scoping requirements, deploying, training, maintaining, and improving CM/DM assets and processes.

A few of the most common organizational challenges we at CMstat have witnessed over the years include:

  • Lack of leadership training and coaching for CM/DM functional leads

  • Inadequate team building and cross-disciplinary training of members

  • CM/DM function is not understood and thus not valued nor respected

  • Insufficient managerial and executive support as evidenced by lack of funding for training or tools in budgets

  • Problems arising from deficient, obsolete, or poorly selected CM/DM tools and processes are concealed from managers

  • Requirements specification and plans were unrealistic given the current state of maturity

  • Performance metrics and goals to drive continuous improvement were absent or improperly defined

  • Priorities, preferences and internal politics of others were seen as being more important

In our experience, organizational obstacles such as those above can have as much if not greater impact on successful outcomes — or lack of — as those difficulties due primarily to technology.

How to Overcome Performance Obstacles

CMstat can help customers to successfully navigate around these common challenges with a set of CM/DM team training and leadership coaching services. This offering includes group training classes, virtual Lunch & Learn seminars, workshops and one-on-one leadership coaching.

Our goal is to provide present and future CM/DM leaders along with their team members the self-assessment, skills, and most importantly, inspiration to measure then raise their level of performance. This will enable the team to consistently deliver greater business value to all the professionals, products, processes, programs, and profits which their efforts support.

As a result, the CM/DM team will earn greater cooperation and respect with a seat at the table when important decisions are being made as recently discussed in this post on elevating configuration and data management inside a company.

Where to Get Started

CMstat’s CM/DM leadership training and team coaching programs are always configured to address the specific “as-is” issues our customers are experiencing, but more importantly the “to-be” desired improvements they seek.

Yet, they all start out with the same no-cost initial confidential call to discuss the state of the CM/DM organization, what challenges are being encountered, and the risk to the company if these are not addressed in a timely fashion.

After this conversation our CM/DM coaching clients will receive a recommended plan outlining one or more services CMstat can provide along with the deliverables, cost, and benefits to use for their internal deliberations.

To arrange your complimentary and confidential initial consultation, contact us now at information@cmstat.com or by calling us 1-877-537-1959.
