Data Management Training for Configuration Data Managers using the SAE GEIA-859 Standard

CMstat has announced the next dates in October, 2024, and February, 2025, for its exclusive training course on Data Management for Configuration Data Managers using the SAE GEIA-859 Standard.

The class will provide a deep introduction to the principles of GEIA-859 Data Management (DM) with emphasis on what the practical application of standards-based DM truly entails for configuration managers who support a product, project, program, or enterprise supply chain.

Students will gain an understanding of DM functions and how they work in concert to enable best-in-class management, identification, storage, protection, and access control of all types of data.

The application of DM to configuration data, CDRL/SDRL deliverables data, administrative data, product metadata, contract data, compliance data, analytics data, and associated data-handling processes will be discovered.

Real-world examples from our instructors’ extensive experience implementing DM, participating in standards authoring teams, and consulting with defense and commercial customers will further illustrate the benefits of effective DM and the risks of not performing it correctly.

Attendees will gain an awareness of the depth and breadth of DM, its application in varied environments and how DM integrates with other functions such as Quality, Systems Engineering, Logistics, Contracts, and Program Management.

In addition to the essential elements of DM, attendees will also explore:

  • The major changes and trends in DM in the past decade.

  • How data management standards like GEIA-859 and associated handbooks address lifecycle data management requirements.

  • How data governance objectives impact relationships and goals of DM processes and tools.

  • Strategies when the implementation of DM processes, tools, and governance tenets is dependent on requirements of a specific industry, global region, or company site.

  • Methodologies and best practices for streamlining DM processes.

  • Common pitfalls in the implementation of DM and how to avoid them.

  • How to promote DM internally not as an expense but as a customer satisfaction and revenue generation opportunity.

  • What is required of DM to support Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.

Participants will ultimately appreciate how DM enables the establishment and maintenance of a trustworthy source of product, project, and enterprise data through strategies for data identification, data storage, protection, security, and data analytics.

This course is intended for professionals working in roles such as:

  • Configuration Data Managers

  • Data Analysts and Managers

  • Contract Deliverables Managers

  • Project and Product Managers

  • Regulatory Compliance Data Managers

  • Digital Transformation Project Managers

  • IT and Security Professionals

The course will prepare DM professionals to lead the effort to establish appropriate data provenance and governance which is crucial for managing data-intensive initiatives such as those involved with digital transformation, deliverables management, configuration management, digital twins, PDM/PLM, cybersecurity, NIST-800 compliance, CMMC, and AI/ML to name just a few.

This class materials have been developed by practicing data management experts Cindy Hauer and Lisa Fenwick who will share the principles, enablers, and best practices that can inform and improve the proficiency and skills of all those attending.  A student of a recent class commented that “The instructors have an impressive background in DM. It was so valuable to have a lead author of the standard there to answer any questions I had!’

A digital copy of the standard is included in the cost of the course, a $180 value.

The online class will be offered virtually on October 14-17, 2024, and on February 3-6, 2025 from 1-5 pm U.S. Eastern time. The class fee is $1,250 USD.
