Configuration Management for Marine and Naval Industries

Configuration Management for Marine and Naval

Due to highly publicized accidents, OEMs and their contractors who build, lease, operate, service or repair marine vessels and offshore platforms now fully comprehend the importance for nearly everything on, over, or under the water to be configuration controlled.

This includes not only hardware equipment, but also all of the associated installation instructions, maintenance records, compliance data, service work orders, operator training manuals and emergency procedures.

The operating configuration of a marine vessel with all of its equipment is the product of hundreds of component providers, each with their own often incompatible CAD, PDM, PLM, ILS, and SLM record-keeping systems.

Configuration management processes and supporting software tools must be capable of bridging the process and data gaps that are made vulnerable by these operational challenges.

The capability to perform configuration management verification, traceability, and audits is just one important CM function required by this industry. Learn more about the role of CM audits HERE.
