PDMPlus Configuration Management Functionality

PDMPlus simplifies and standardizes, then automates and checks, and finally tracks and reports on the numerous complex and interdependent tasks which configuration management experts, routine users, and occasional consumers of product configuration data must perform.  The important configuration management functionality utilized by users of PDMPlus often includes baseline configuration management plus any or all of the following listed below:

  • Building and maintaining a product structure with or without the OEM’s PDM/CAD/BOM data

  • Identifying then managing parts and items in or outside of the original product structure

  • Access part information including part change history, alternate or substitute parts, superseded parts, supplier part numbers, and authorized sources

  • Defining and tracking configuration items over the extended lifecycle

  • Creating and archiving snapshots of baseline configurations over years of asset use

  • Managing the complexity of multiple simultaneous changes to the established configurations

  • Populating and maintaining a configuration database of authority with a secure vault

  • Uploading and managing document libraries with version and associativity control

  • Enforcing industry standards, best practices, and company rules internally and with suppliers and service partners

  • Maintaining and tracking relationships across multiple levels of product structure granularity and configuration history

  • Associate change objects such documents, item, parts, contracts, projects, requirements with the necessary many-to-many, one-to-many, many-to-one relationships preserved

  • Perform multi-level searches for any object type such as parts, documents, or As-Builts

  • Performing where-used analysis, effectivity searches, associativity queries, traceability audits, CSAR tracking, and impact assessment

  • Identify “Where-Used” information for parts and assemblies with graphical views showing single- and multi-level used-on along with products, quantity, and project information

  • Creating, evaluating, reviewing, approving, and incorporating configuration change objects and proposed changes

  • Performing configuration status accounting

  • Automatically receive the latest document revision information to avoid erroneous impact assessment with previous revisions and change history immediately available for review

  • Tracking and logging of tasks, communications, notifications, and requests

  • Configuring role-based access, views, and control for colleagues, suppliers, and service partners

  • Automating workflows and dashboards of individual users and larger processes

  • Generating standard and custom reports

  • View, print and export IPL, Configuration Item Structure, As-Configured and Used-On information in expandable tree or graphical formats.
